Because church seating is often laid out like a bus, with passengers in the main part and the driver at the front, people can act with appropriate bus-style behaviour. They board the bus (sit in the pew) at the beginning of the ride. They sit passively while politely following any instructions that the driver issues and trying not to stare or make eye contact with other passengers. When they have reached the desired destination they thank the driver and step off, without at any stage speaking to another passenger.
God’s intention is that we actively participate as He enables us.
